Lord, teach us to pray

A Format for Prayer

Adoration The words of praise, glorifying our Lord.  Books of the Psalms often give us inspiration.

“Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the rock of our salvation…for the Lord is the great God, the great king above all gods.”   Psalm 95

“The Lord reigns, he is robed in majesty…”    Psalm 93

Confession Confessing and asking forgiveness for every sin that separates us from God.

“If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.  If we confess our sin, he who is faithful and just will forgive us from all unrighteousness.”  1 John 1:8-9

This is also the time to forgive those who have sinned against us.  In Matthew 6:14-15 Jesus says:

“For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.  But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.”

Thanksgiving Giving thanks to God for his great goodness to us for answered prayer.  Again, we find many examples in the Psalms.

“Let us come before him with thanksgiving, and extol him with music and song.”   Psalm 95:2

“Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.”

  Psalm 100:4

Supplication Lastly, our requests of God.  James 4:2 talks about asking God:

“You do not have, because you do not ask God.”

Prayer Changes Things
It also changes us as we draw near to our Father in heaven.  Many lives can be transformed by the power of prayer:  broken relationships can be given new life; physical and emotional healing can be experienced; and others can find an intimacy with their Creator that they have never known before.

If you have any questions or would like more information about any of our prayer opportunities, please contact Pastor Vera Johnson by phone at 651-483-5419, or by e-mail at pastorvera@shepherdshoreview.org.

Living a Life of Prayer
We believe that the Christian life is lived out in the presence of God and with the indwelling of His Holy Spirit.  That means that everything we do and say is done in the presence of Almighty God.  But wouldn’t it be incredible to feel the presence of God always?  Wouldn’t it make all the difference in the world to be in intimate conversation with your Father in heaven?  We believe that such a relationship is possible through a life of prayer.

The Power of Community
We believe that some of the best opportunities to experience God in prayer happen in the context of long-term relationships.  With that in mind, we encourage you to become a part of a ministry or a small group at Shepherd that regularly practices prayer.

Opportunities to Pray
Prayer Teams
pray for special needs and for church concerns.  They are informed of the need via e-mail or phone and lift them up in their daily prayers.  For information about being part of the E-mail/Phone Prayer Circle, contact the church office at 651-483-5419.

Altar Prayer Ministry is an opportunity to pray and be prayed for in front of God's wonderful altar on the Second Sunday of each month.
The Prayer List is published on the devotional sheet found in the Sunday bulletin.  It is a list of those members, family and friends who need prayer.

If you have a prayer request for the prayer circle or prayer list, please call Gayle in the church office (651.288.2255).

“Do not be anxious about anything but in everything by prayer and petition with thanksgiving present your requests to God.”
