Summer Mission Trips
DULUTH MISSION
TRIP (GRADES 7-8)
During the summer, youth
spend a week in Duluth partnering with various urban ministries
to serve the needs of Duluth residents. Youth have an opportunity
to spend time with the elderly in nearby senior citizen centers,
partner with social service organizations that minister to the needs
of the homeless, or assist an area church with a daily children's
program.

CHICAGO, IL MISSION TRIP (GRADES 9-12)
YouthWorks! will host
SOH youth and friends in Chicago, IL! Chicago is the third largest
city in the United States and is known for being a city of neighborhoods.
The nine county metropolitan area is home to more than eight million
people, three million of whom live in the city itself. It is renowned
for excellent shops and restaurants, as well as an abundance of
sporting events, music and cultural attractions. Economically, many
residents of Chicago struggle on a daily basis, and poverty is widespread.
Community members deal with such life impacting issues as employment,
language barriers for recent immigrants, high school dropouts, urban
life threats to the youth in the forms of alcohol, drugs and gangs,
as well as the problem of homelessness. The goal of YouthWorks!
is to partner with local ministries and programs that seek to address
the very basic needs of Chicago's residents. Youth will serve by
visiting with the elderly and preparing meals for those living independently;
playing with children and visiting with women in this homeless shelter;
feeding, clothing, helping the needy; serving meals to the homeless
and sorting donations; and volunteering with a summer camp.
